Tempo trainer
Start slow and let the metronome speed you up a little at a time as you play, until you reach your target tempo. Then it holds it there.
How to set it up
- Set the metronome to a tempo you can play cleanly. That is where the trainer starts.
- Choose how much to speed up each step: +1, +2, +5 or +10 BPM.
- Choose how many bars between steps: 1, 2, 4, 8 or 16.
- Set where to stop, up to 300 BPM. Before you start, the sheet shows the climb: how many steps, how many bars and about how long it takes.
- Load it in the metronome and press Start.
Why speed up gradually
Playing a passage cleanly at a slow tempo and raising it in small steps builds speed without building in mistakes. Steps of 1 or 2 BPM every 4 or 8 bars suit a hard passage; bigger steps suit a warm-up.
Use it with the other tools
Combine it with the rhythm trainer for silent bars, or a polyrhythm metronome, or start from a song's own tempo in the song tempo list. By link, /app/?bpm=90&ramp=2&every=4&to=120 climbs from 90 to 120 BPM by 2 BPM every 4 bars.
Questions
- What is a tempo trainer?
- A metronome that raises its own tempo as you play, so you work up to speed without stopping to change it. It is also called a speed trainer.
- Can it slow down too?
- No. It speeds up step by step and then holds the target. To practise slower, start from a lower tempo.
- Where does it start?
- At the metronome's current tempo. Set the tempo first, then the steps and the target.
- Can I use it for a song?
- Yes. Find the song in the song tempo list, open it in the metronome, lower the tempo, and set the target to the song's own tempo.
- Is it free?
- Yes, with no ads and no account needed, in any browser.
